Major League Baseball brought its inaugural game to Alabama! The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals played at Birmingham’s historic Rickwood Field on June 20, 2024. The game was a tribute to the legacy of the Negro Leagues, and many former players were in attendance. The legendary Willie Mays is from Birmingham, and many were hoping he’d be able to attend. Unfortunately, he passed away two days before the game, making this game even more special.
Rickwood Field is the oldest professional baseball park in America and was built in 1910. Hopefully this isn’t the last time MLB comes to the Magic City!
(Excuse the sweat. It was humid!)
